Collaborative Pianist

Position Summary

Voices of Philly is seeking a skilled and versatile Collaborative Pianist to join our artistic team. The Collaborative Pianist plays a vital role in supporting rehearsals, performances, and the musical growth of our singers. The ideal candidate is an excellent pianist who is equally comfortable reading complex scores and learning music by ear in a variety of musical styles. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Accompany weekly choir rehearsals and performances.

  • Prepare music independently – both from recordings and choral scores – with accuracy and musicality, adapt accompaniment styles to support a wide range of musical genres.

  • Support sectional rehearsals and special events as needed.

  • Assist singers by modeling vocal parts, entrances, and harmonies when appropriate.

  • Maintain professional communication and punctuality.

 

Qualifications

  • Advanced piano skills, comfortable switching between written notation and aural learning.

  • Strong music reading abilities, including choral octavos

  • Demonstrated ability to learn and perform music by ear.

  • Experience playing with a rhythm section (bass, drums, piano)

  • Experience accompanying choirs, vocal ensembles, or musical theatre productions.

  • Comfort performing in multiple musical styles, including classical and aural-oral traditions

  • Excellent collaborative and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to follow a conductor while maintaining musical flexibility.

  • Experience working with youth is preferred.

  • Comfortability singing with singers during rehearsal/sectionals

  • PA Clearances and Background Check required ($40; cost covered by VOP)

  • Commitment to completing one full session (Sept - December)

 

Schedule

  • Weekly rehearsals on Wednesdays, 5-7pm, Arch Street Presbyterian Church (1724 Arch Street in Center City, Philadelphia) - beginning in September

  • Concerts and special performances including

    • December concert  (usually the 2nd or 3rd Sunday at 3pm)

    • Additional rehearsals as scheduled

 

Compensation

Rehearsal rate: $50 p/hour;
Concert & Dress Rehearsals: Flat rate of $150 for up to four hours

Payment Schedule is Monthly, invoices required

Program Coordinator

​Position Summary
The Program Coordinator is a key member of the Voices of Philly team, supporting the day-to-day operations of the choir while helping create a welcoming, organized, and engaging experience for singers and their families. This role combines program administration, family communication, community engagement, and music education support to ensure rehearsals, performances, and special events run smoothly. Working closely with the Artistic Director, the Program Coordinator serves as a primary point of contact for students and caregivers, assists with rehearsal logistics and singer engagement, and helps foster an inclusive, relationship-centered environment where young people can grow as musicians and leaders.

 

Key Responsibilities

Communication & Relationship Building

  • Supervise singers before and after events (rehearsals, concerts, workshops, or other events) to ensure all are safe and supported. (Plan to arrive thirty minutes prior to the event and leave thirty minutes after the event. May include some travel with students by bus to the event.)

  • Connect with families to foster a meaningful relationship of care and communication between VoP and our community (learn student & parent/guardian names, maintain accurate email/phone contact, attendance follow up, communicate personally with absent students/families, s)end weekly email with reminders including flyers, calendar

  • Support singers whn they experience emergencies in rehearsal or performance that may impact their participation 

  • Help on-board new singers ​

 

Administration

  • Take attendance (rehearsals, concerts) and maintain accurate weekly attendance records 

  • Maintain and update singer roster

  • Create/update accurate email and phone contact information for students and caregivers

  • Distribute/track septa passes at rehearsal

  • Assist in meal distribution for singers at performances 

  • uniform distribution  

  • prepare copies needed for rehearsal (sheet music; calendars, event flyers) 

  • prepare singer binders prior to season

  • Handle any paperwork distribution/collection

  • Update practice page with materials/announcements

  • donor support during down weeks- update donor list, send donor acknowledgement notes
     

Choral Music Education

  • Provide vocal support through singing in weekly rehearsals to foster part independence

  • Support students in their use of traditional staff notation

  • Set up rehearsal space with access to materials (music, materials, projector, sign in sheet, chairs)

  • Roam rehearsal to ensure students have the appropriate materials (lyrics, sheet music) or support to sing and participate

  • Assist with leading warm-ups, sectionals, and additional music education instruction 
     

Qualifications

  • passion and background in music education and working with diverse youth ages 11–18

  • Commitment to fostering meaningful relationships with students, families, and communities

  • Strong working knowledge of google suite (google docs, sheets), willingness to learn constant contact and google-voice (for phone calls), google sites for practice site

  • Comfortability singing a wide range of music in and out of rehearsal, both use of traditional staff notation and in the aural-oral tradition (by ear). 

  • Comfortable making phone calls to students and families

  • PA Clearances and Background Check required ($40; cost covered by VOP)

  • Commitment to completing one season (August-June)​

Schedule​

  • 7 hours per week 

    • 3 hours rehearsal time on Wednesdays, 4:30–7:30 p.m. at Arch Street Presbyterian Church, 1701 Arch Street (Center City, Philadelphia)

    • 4 hours administration time per week

  • Required calls -  paid per hour ($15.00 p/hr)

    • December concert (4 hours)

    • “Love City Sings” (usually one day in January/February)- 8 hours

    • May concert - 4 hours

    • Caroling gigs - 2 hours

  • Additional “Calls” - Paid per hour ($15.00 p/hr) - as they come up
     

Compensation

$4000 for the year for 7 hours a week
+ additional performance calls at $15 p/hr

 

Payment Schedule  - Monthly (timesheets required)
