Everyone can sing!
We invite everyone to “come as they are” no matter their musical background.
Through free, high quality, weekly choral music education,
students develop vocal technique and learn to sing with strength, expression, and artistry.
Our students sing music spanning multiple genres and languages, and are exposed to diverse teaching styles, including learning both in the aural-oral tradition (“by ear”) and the use of traditional staff notation.

Sharing your singing voice with others is scary (especially for adolescents)!
At Voices of Philly, we create a joyful “home” for youth where students are welcomed into our loving and supportive "choir family" where they are safe to share their voice.
Every voice is essential to create harmony.
Through learning repertoire that reflects their lived experiences, cultures, and identities, singers gain confidence to express themselves—sharing ideas, taking risks, and trusting that who they are, what they say, and how they sing matters.

Voices of Philly is collective. Students connect across neighborhoods to harmonize --
musically, artistically, and socially.
They connect with peers they may not otherwise meet.
We ask participants to stay accountable to the "collective" by committing to regular attendance
to rehearsals and concerts, and practicing communication skills regarding conflicts.
As a choir, we do a good job making everyone feel seen, heard, included, and welcomed.”

As our singers sing ALL music that communicate the stories, emotions, and cultural values of people across time periods and genres,
they begin to understand how their voices—both musically and socially—can contribute positively to their communities.
They demonstrate this through regular community performances in a variety of settings.
